Our Guesthouses are not staffed full time so you can enjoy maximum privacy, though assistance is always nearby should you need it.
Our popular guesthouses are loved by many visitors to Byron Bay, therefore they are maintained at all times. We ask and appreciate your assistance in keeping our properties clean for yourself and other guests to enjoy. Please take care to save electricity for the environment and maintain security by locking all the doors and windows when not on the property. Thank You
We encourage guests to enjoy our fully fitted kitchen and living area, however, ask that guests please maintain the tidy environment and clean up after themselves as a common courtesy to other guests.
To preserve the quiet, relaxing atmosphere of Away At Byron Bay Guesthouses, we welcome adult guests only. As such, we’re unable to accommodate children or babies unless the entire guesthouse is booked by a family. This allows all our guests to fully enjoy the tranquillity, privacy, and restorative nature of our properties.

1. Woolworths Byron Bay: 450 m walk to Jonson Street supermarket, one of the main full-range supermarkets in town.
2. ALDI: 500 m walk on Byron Street (great value groceries).
3. Bay Grocer: 600 m walk (smaller neighbourhood grocer).
4. IGA Byron Bay: 2.7 km walk (but a full-range supermarket if you’re up for a longer stroll)

Distance: approx. 450 metres
Driving time: 1–2 minutes
It’s basically around the corner on Shirley Street, so this is the closest and easiest fuel stop by car.
The nearest patrolled beach from that address is Main Beach Byron Bay, which is regularly monitored by surf lifesavers in the summer and the main patrolled area in town.
Walking Distance
Belongil Beach (unpatrolled but popular and very close) is about a 5 minute walk (roughly 400–500 m) from Shirley Lane.
Main Beach (patrolled) is about a 9–10 minute walk (around 800–900 m) from Shirley Lane.
Our rooms accommodate a maximum of 2 people only. We do not provide any extra bedding and due to the guesthouse style of accommodation, we cannot allow more than 2 people per room.
The Away at Byron Bay Guesthouses cater for large group and family stays if the entire guesthouse is booked. Please contact us if you’d like to book the entire guesthouse.
We do provide beach towels for guests staying at our Guesthouses.
In your suite you will find fresh linens, hairdryer, towels, and natural spa products including soap, shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
We don’t provide breakfast. Grab some local produce and cook up a feast in our well-equipped kitchens or visit one of the fabulous local cafes just a short stroll or drive away depending on which Away Guesthouse you are staying at.
All our guesthouses do not accept schoolies reservations. Our minimum check-in age is 21.
Due to the nature of our property, we leave you to enjoy Shirley Lane Guesthouse as though it were your own and are on hand should you need anything by telephone. The property is not staffed 24/7.
All of our apartments and suites are protected by an electronic locking system, your personalised door code will be sent to you prior to check-in via SMS and Email.
We will do our best to accommodate any late check-outs and this must be arranged by contacting us on the Guesthouse booking line at the time of booking or prior to arrival.
Cancellations or changes to bookings for Guesthouses must be made at least 7 days prior to check-in date and arrival time at the Guesthouse or you will be charged the full amount of the booking.
If you cancel or change your booking 7 days or more prior to your scheduled arrival at the Guesthouse a full refund less Credit Card surcharge will be provided.
1.3% Credit Card surcharge is not refundable
Parties or gatherings are strictly prohibited. Disturbance to other guesthouse guests and neighbours including excessive noise and music is prohibited and may result in eviction without refund. If a noise complaint is received the first warning will be given, if a second complaint is received this will result in immediate eviction with no refund.

Yes, we have 4 car spots in our off-road carpark as well as many surrounding car spots on the street.
Smoking inside the house is not permitted. Additional cleaning costs will be charged to guests who do so. Any cigarette butts found discarded outside will incur an additional cleaning cost to be deducted from the security bond.
Yes, you can. Guests are responsible for ensuring that visitors comply with the House Rules. Visitors are not allowed to stay any nights at the property.
Yes, there’s a very well equipped communal kitchen at Shirley Lane Guesthouse. If you’d prefer a private kitchen there is a kitchenette in the 2 bedroom self contained apartment upstairs.
Yes, the pools at Away At Byron Bay Guesthouses are within the communal areas.
No, the guesthouse is very close to Byron Bay and is an easy flat walking distance. It is also very close to where public transport drop offs in Byron Bay are located.
Shirley Lane Guesthouse is great for solo travellers as well as couples! The guesthouse can also be great for families and large groups if the whole guesthouse is booked.
